Meet the People Behind the Impact

This short video highlights the people at the heart of hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIPs) and the HAVI—healthcare teams and community-based violence (CVI) prevention professionals working together to support healing.

Across the HAVI Network

Programs are putting this approach into practice—adapting it to their local context while staying grounded in shared principles and healing-centered care and community partnership.

About the HAVI

The Health Alliance for Violence Intervention (HAVI) mobilizes a growing national network of hospital- and community-based programs in 100+ cities, builds and advances the HVIP model, and strengthens collaboration across sectors.

The HAVI provides training for frontline violence prevention professionals, offers technical assistance to healthcare systems and health departments, convenes peer learning networks and communities of practice, and drives research and advocacy—strengthening programs, policies, and systems to foster safe, healthy communities.

A Proven Approach to Violence Prevention

Hospitals play a critical role in establishing hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIPs) and supporting community-based solutions. HVIPs bring together physicians, nurses, social workers, and violence prevention professionals with lived experience and community credibility to work side-by-side, providing comprehensive, wraparound care to people after injury—reducing the risk of future harm.

This work begins in the hospital and continues in the community, connecting people with opportunities to heal, stabilize, and rebuild their lives.

Prevention begins when everyone has access to what they need to thrive.

Get Involved. End Violence.

Violence is preventable—and we have the tools to address it. But hospital- and community-based violence intervention programs still lack the investment needed to reach every community. Learn more, stay informed, and help sustain HVIPs and CVI programs across the country.

Violence hurts us all. Together, we can prevent violence and foster healing.
